After a 16-hour lightning delay which forced Nansemond-Suffolk and Atlantic Shores to play the last two-and-a-half quarters on Saturday afternoon, the Seahawks kept rolling right along, taking a 10-0 lead at the time of the stoppage to a 38-7 win.

The contest pitted the No. 1 rated Seahawks (Virginia Independent Schools, Div. II) against the No. 3 Saints. Atlantic Shores’ offense marched up and down the field with a couple home runs thrown in to pull away.

Saturday’s resumption started with NSA in possession and seven minutes left in the second quarter. After the Seahawks forced a punt, their second play from scrimmage was a 74-yard pass from Josh Healey to Todd Haynes.

In the closing 1:23 of the half, the Seahawks showed a good hurry-up offense and good clock management to run 10 plays in that span and move 56 yards for a touchdown, a 5-yard run by Healey, as the clock expired. Counting Friday night, it was the second of three touchdown runs by Healey, a transfer to Atlantic Shores from Greenbrier Christian.

The Saints avoided the shutout with a long drive that spanned 13:58 of a running clock between the third and fourth quarters. J.R. Crowder carried three times for 31 yards on the drive. Hunt Odom and Christian Upchurch finished the drive as Odom found his tight end on a 3-yard touchdown pass.

Nansemond-Suffolk (2-3, 0-2) travels to Northern Virginia and Nokesville to face Kettle Run High School on Friday. Kettle Run is a Group AA school in its first season of football.
