Wal-Mart updating look

Shoppers at the downtown Suffolk Wal-Mart have likely noticed a few changes over the past few months.
The store is going through a major remodel, said store manager Sam Wiggs. Shoppers can expect the changes to be complete in about a month.
“We’re scheduled to be finished by Nov. 5,” he said. “That’s when we’re supposed to have our grand reopening.”
The store, which has remained open throughout the switch, is getting a facelift both inside and out, Wiggs said. New paint already has started to go up on the storefront, and inside as well. In addition, the store is modernizing, putting down new wood floors and taking up old carpet, moving the jewelry department up front, moving the electronics department to the back and expending it, and extending some of the counters in the food department.
“The store is 17 years old,” Wiggs said. “It was opened in 1991, and hasn’t been through a major remodel since then.”
Many of the changes in certain departments are being made to accommodate more choices for customers, Wiggs said, particularly electronics and food. The checkout counters will be updated as well.
“We just ask that as we’re tearing up, to be patient with us,” Wiggs said. “It’s not always easy when you’re going through a remodel and you’re still open. We want to make sure that we’re taking care of the customers as much as possible.”
“It’s going to be more space, more items to pick from and a newer, fresher, cleaner look.”
