Lakeland wins to wrap up regular season

Lakeland defeated Peninsula District opponent Kecoughtan 1-0 on Monday at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.

The Lady Cavaliers got the only goal they needed off a corner in the first half. Taylor Young scored on Alyssa Chirico’s assist. Lakeland improves to 14-2 overall heading into the Southeastern District Tournament.

The tournament will be hosted by the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center on Oct. 29 and 31.

Top-seeded Lakeland and No. 4 Hickory will play the first semifinal at 3 p.m. on Oct. 29. No. 2 Nansemond River and No. 3 Western Branch will follow at approximately 4:15 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.

Admission each day is $7 for adults and $5 for children grades 1-5.

The Lady Cavaliers learned their first-round opponent in the Eastern Region Tournament will be Granby as the Eastern District played its semifinals on Monday.
