To some, Suffolk Parks and Recreation’s men’s flag football league is definitely more than a hobby. One hundred thirty-two players participated in this year’s league, which ran from August through October.
“We started the flag football league in spring, 2004 with five teams. In the fall of 2006, we added the fall season,” Recreation Superintendent Tameka Dillard said.
“We now have over 12 teams participating every spring season and six or seven teams in the fall.”
Suffolk Parks and Recreation’s flag football teams are sanctioned through the Virginia Flag Football Association.
In the fall season’s playoffs, Da Unit were first place champions and Loose Cannon was runner-up. The season’s success is greatly attributed to the players, who exhibited exceptional sportsmanship, camaraderie and athletic skill – all while having fun.
