Suffolk city offices will be closed Thursday through Monday in order for employees to observe Lee-Jackson Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
All city libraries, along with the Suffolk Museum, will be closed for the entire four-day weekend. They and the city’s other offices will reopen on Tuesday at their normal times.
Suffolk’s Tourism Visitor Center and its four major parks — Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole and Bennett’s Creek — will remain open. No attendants will be on duty at the parks, though.
Hampton Roads Transit buses will not operate either Friday or Monday, and the city’s public works department will operate on an amended schedule. Friday’s trash will be picked up on Saturday, and Monday’s trash will be collected on Tuesday. Next week, Tuesday’s trash will be collected Wednesday, Wednesday’s on Thursday, Thursday’s on Friday and Friday’s on Saturday.
The city’s holiday schedule mirrors that of the commonwealth of Virginia, meaning that all state offices and parks will be closed, as well.
