CenterPoint moving forward

CenterPoint Properties closed last week on one of the properties it needs to move forward with its plan to build a 930-acre intermodal center.

CenterPoint paid about $580,000 for the 21-acre parcel that formerly belonged to Denton A. Gibbs Jr. Shannon Mullen, spokeswoman for CenterPoint, said the deal had been in the works for quite some time.

“It proceeded as we had planned,” she said. The parcel is in the northeastern portion of the park, she said.

The park, approved last month by the Suffolk City Council, will include about 5.8 million square feet of warehouse and distribution facilities at its full development. It is expected to be completed in 2015.

A related public hearing is on the Planning Commission agenda for its Feb. 17 meeting. The conditional use permit requests a religious assembly for West Suffolk Baptist Church, which is being relocated because of the development. That meeting will be held Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. in City Council chambers, 441 Market St.
