King’s Fork senior TaShauna “Sugar” Rodgers has been selected as one of 12 players to be on the East Team for the McDonald’s All-American High School Game to be held in Miami on Wednesday, Apr. 1.
Rodgers, who’s the reigning and three-time MVP of the Southeastern District and was a first team all-state selection last season, is one of 24 girls basketball players from a search of 900-1,200 nominees to be named a McDonald’s All-American. Rodgers has signed a scholarship offer from Georgetown.
Rodgers eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for her King’s Fork career earlier this season and was ranked the No. 9 ranked Class of 2009 player in the nation by slamonline.com and in the top 30 according to ESPN and the Blue Star Report.
The itinerary for the McDonald’s All-Americans during their trip to Miami includes four days of activities, capped by the game at the University of Miami’s BankUnited Center on Wednesday. The girls game, set for 5:30 p.m., will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
Leading up to the game, the high school players will practice with their brief, but fellow All-American, teammates, visit the Ronald McDonald House in Miami and visit tourist sites around Miami. The All-Americans will take part in the McDonald’s Jam Fest on Monday night at the BankUnited Center and in a Media Day on Tuesday.
The East Team includes players set to go to Connecticut, Stanford, Texas and Maryland among other high-ranked women’s basketball programs.
