Larry Vann

Larry W. Vann, 58, of 4509 West Norfolk Road, Portsmouth, Va., was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at his residence. He was a native of Norfolk County, Va., and the son of the late Raleigh and Catherine Hall Vann. Mr. Vann was the widower of the late Vanessa A. Vann.
Larry was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, class of 1969. He served in the Army from 1969-1972 during the Vietnam War and later in the Army Reserve. He was a shipfitter and machinist for 25 years at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he retired in 2002.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Queen Riddick; a daughter, Kimberly Vann Haynes (Eric), of Portsmouth, Va.; one son, LaRon Vann (Kimberly), of Portsmouth; four sisters, Claretta Hargraves, Willamae Beale, Beatrice Turner and Elizabeth Deering, all of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Sariyah Vann, Destiny, KaRon, Eric Jr. and Erica Haynes; father-in-law, Samuel Almond, of Suffolk; two sisters-in-law, Jacqueline A. Hicks, of Suffolk, and Vanester Rountree, of Waterbury, Conn.; four brothers-in-law, George, Randy and Raymond McDonald, of Waterbury, Conn., and Joe Lewis McDonald, of Charlotte, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at St. Timothy Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Thomas E. Harden Jr., pastor. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
