Most people might think the opry doesn’t come any closer to Suffolk than Nashville, Tenn.

However, the Holland District Ruritans know better.

The group, which comprises 60 Ruritan clubs in the area, will present “An Evening at the Opry” on March 14 at King’s Fork Middle School. The evening, which costs $20, begins at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds are used for various projects throughout the area.

“We’re looking forward to having another good year,” said Carol Warren, coordinator of the Evening at the Opry. “It’s going to be a great evening.”

The show will feature music by The Side Kicks with Ricky Casper, Two Women and a Piano Player, and vocalist Tiffany Jones. Door prizes will be handed out, and dinner will include barbecue and fried chicken.

“It’s dinner and a show for $20,” Warren said. “It’s right here in Suffolk, makes it very convenient.”

A highlight of the show will be comedian Steven West, who had the audience roaring with laughter last year.

“He brings back the country, the good old opry,” Warren said.

Tickets will be sold in advance only for the event. To get yours, call 657-2088 or 934-0755. For more information on the Holland District Ruritans, visit www.hollanddistrictruritans.org.
