Richard Futch

Richard R. “Dick” Futch, 81, of Shenandoah, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Futch was born Oct. 1, 1927, in Rocky Point, N.C., and was the son of the late Raymond and Mary Lee New Futch. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Canney.
Dick was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, and was also a member of the Massanutten Hunting Club, Inc., Merck Rod and Gun Club and was on the Board of Zoning Appeals in Page County. In his retirement, he enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired in 1984 from Merck and Co. as a mechanic.
On April 15, 1960, he married Betty Lou Sampson Futch, who survives him. Also surviving are a son, Mark Richard Futch and fiancée, Kathy Wimer, of Shenandoah; a daughter, Cheryl F. Pope and husband, Ronnie, of Frisco, N.C.; two grandchildren, Adam and Aaron Modlin; two stepgrandchildren, Kimberly Ameri and Amanda Parker; two nieces, Mary and Kathleen; one nephew, Patrick.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Stephen Creech officiating. Burial followed in the Elk Run Cemetery.
