A 17-year-old Suffolk boy remained in the hospital in critical condition on Tuesday following an accident Monday night on New Road.

Cody T. Wheeler of the 400 block of New Road was ejected from the vehicle he was driving when it ran off the road and flipped several times, according to a police statement.

Wheeler was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina. A passenger in the vehicle was also hurt, but his injuries did not appear to be life threatening, according to Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George.

Wheeler was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by Nightingale air ambulance following the 6:39 p.m. accident.

Police were still investigating the accident Tuesday night. George was unable to say whether charges would be filed against the driver.
