Suffolk Police want to return property that was recovered during a traffic pursuit in 2004, and are seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner.

During the first week of October 2004, Suffolk police officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit, after which the occupants fled on foot. The vehicle was registered in Suffolk, but the driver was from Portsmouth and the two occupants were Norfolk residents.

While doing an inventory of the vehicle’s contents, officers found a container with numerous aged coins, including old half dollars, silver dollars, buffalo nickels, old dimes, wheat pennies, bicentennial quarters and old paper currency.

Since then, the coins have sat in the Suffolk Police property and evidence room, and police want to return the items to the owners. The coins are thought to have been stolen during a burglary in late September or early October 2004.

If you know the rightful owner of the property, call Lt. Janet Brandsasse at 514-7948.
