Registration open for swamp stomp

Registration is now open for the Third Annual Dismal Swamp Stomp Half-Marathon and Children’s Half-Mile Cub Run, which will be held on Saturday, April 18.
The 13.1-mile race follows a straight and flat course along the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway on the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail in Chesapeake.
Starters to experienced runners are invited to register.
With $8,000 in prize money, a walking category and the return of the children’s half-mile Cub Run, the event provides something for all running abilities and is the perfect venue for a fun and fitness-oriented family outing.
Awards will be given to: the top five overall male and female; the top three overall masters male and female; the top three local male and female; the back of the pack male and female; and the top three overall male and female runners in each age group: 12-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70 and over. Top three male and female walkers. Each registered participant will receive a finisher’s medal when they cross the finish line.
The flat 13.1-mile asphalt course will take runners on a spectacular jouney through lush, mysterious landscape and rich history.
Sanctioned by USA Track & Field, the out-and-back race begins at 8 a.m. rain or shine.
The event is limited to 2,500 runners and applicants will be accepted on a first-come/first-served basis. All runners/walkers must be able to complete the course in 4 hours or less. This race is open to walkers and baby strollers.
All children, 12-and-under, in the Half-Mile Cub Run will receive a t-shirt, runner’s packet and finisher’s medal. Parents are welcome to run alongside their children.
The regular fee is $55. Spectators will be admitted free. The half-marathon starts at 8 a.m.
