Suffolk Police have recovered dozens of items they believe may have been stolen in more than 30 burglaries in the southern area of the city.
On Thursday, police executed search warrants at two residences, one in the 800 block of Milford Lane and another in the 100 block of Forest Glen Drive. At those houses, they recovered construction tools, generators, lawn equipment and power tools that they believe were stolen in the burglaries, said city spokeswoman Debbie George.
The thieves have targeted items such as jewelry, cash, coins, electronics, tools and power equipment. Seven of the burglaries were of sheds. The incidents occurred in the areas of Freeman Mill Road, Holland Road, Indian Trail, Longstreet Lane and other areas.
Upon hearing about the burglaries, a local business owner called police, saying that two men came to his business attempting to sell items like those listed stolen. He provided police with a security video of the men in the parking lot.
Soon after releasing the video to the media, detectives began receiving calls identifying one of the men as 22-year-old Frank Pearson V. His home was one of those searched on Thursday.
Pearson has been charged with possession of heroin and possession of marijuana, based on narcotics recovered during the search.
The next step for police is to match up property with owners. However, police have been able to identify only one item as stolen from one of the numerous victims. Many owners were not able to provide serial numbers for their equipment, and therefore will have to identify their equipment by sight.
Police were attempting to contact all victims, George said.
Detectives from Southampton County and from Hertford County, N.C., also were reviewing the property yesterday. George said officials in those localities have noticed similar burglaries.
