Macon Sanford, 85, passed away April 30, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. Mr. Sanford was the son of Laura Barnacastle and George Edward Sanford, and is preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Sanford, brothers, Harold & Eddie Sanford, and a sister, Shirley Sanford. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Suffolk.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, Ralph M. Sanford and wife, Janice, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sisters, Marie Dodson, of Hollywood, Fla., and Doris White, of Warner Robbins, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Tim, Mark, Christopher, and Jennifer Sanford, Amy Birdsong, Suzanne Guinn, and Mary Sunderman; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009 in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., by the Rev. Micah Voight, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, Va. The family will receive family and friends in the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to a charity of your choice.
