The Suffolk Foundation, along with the Howard D. Mast Memorial Scholarship Committee, has announced the 2009 recipient of the Howard D. Mast Memorial Scholarship is Dasha Godunova, a senior at Nansemond River High School.

Godunova is the No. 1 seed on the Nansemond River girls tennis team and was assisted by Mast while he was coaching the Nansemond River boys team.

In making the selection, the committee reviewed the applicant’s academic performance, extracurricular activities, character and recommendations. The committee was impressed with Godunova’s numerous academic, athletic, and service achievements and awards, according to members.

Godunova will attend the College of William and Mary in the fall. The $1,000 scholarship will be sent directly to the College to assist with tuition or other university fees.
