A Suffolk man has been charged with shooting and killing a 10-month-old German shepherd mix that belonged to his 70-year-old neighbor, according to police reports.
Oscar Lee Ellis Jr., 54, of Cherry Grove Road North, has been charged with felony animal cruelty following the April 22 incident, Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George said in a press release on Saturday.
Police were called to the home of the dog’s owner after she heard three shots from the area of her neighbor’s home and then was unable to find her dog. When they arrived at the scene, police found the dog dead in nearby brush.
A necropsy confirmed that the dog died of gunshot wounds, George stated in the press release, and an arrest warrant was issued. That warrant was executed on Thursday.
