Drivers look to extend streaks on Armed Forces Night

HAMPTON — A trio of two-race winning streaks will be on the line this Saturday, May 16, as Langley Speedway continues its 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with Little G.I. Joe’s Armed Forces Night.

C.E. Falk (Late Model Stock Car), Ryan Nester (Super Street) and Randy Prillaman (UCAR) will be gunning for their third consecutive victories on Saturday night.

This weekend’s lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars (100 laps); Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets (50 laps); Casey Cycle City INEX Legends (25 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); and, Standard Welding Pro 6s (30 laps).

For Saturday’s Armed Forces Night program, tickets are just $5 for military personnel (active-duty or retired, with ID). Military members in uniform are admitted free of charge.

The Speedway launches the 2009 edition of its popular “Wacky Wednesdays” series on May 20. Fans can look forward to 1-on-1 drag races, “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock) and burnout contests.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun gets under way at 7. Tickets are just $5 for adults and kids (6-12). Children under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes for competitors are $15.

A full day of action is planned for Saturday, May 23, when Langley Speedway and the City of Hampton team up to welcome the USARacing Pro Cup Series for a 250-lap feature contest. The Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars and the Old Point National Bank Grand Stocks will also be on hand for the Memorial Day Weekend event.

Front gates open at 10:30 a.m. with Pro Cup practice getting under way at 11. Practice rounds for the local classes begin at 2 p.m. Grand Stock qualifying is scheduled for 3:45, followed by Pro Cup and Late Model time trials.

The Grand Stock 40-lapper gets the green flag right after the conclusion of Late Model qualifying – approximately 5 p.m. The Pro Cup Series holds its traditional autograph session at 5:45 and pre-race ceremonies begin at 6:30. The Pro Cup race is slated for a 7 p.m. start, while the Late Models wrap up the show.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for military and senior citizens. Children’s (6-12) tickets are $10. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Advance tickets are on sale now and are available in the track office from 9-5, Monday-Friday. They may also be purchased at the front gate ticket windows this Saturday.
