Sallie Cofield

Sallie W. Cofield, 87, of 1408 Sierra Drive, Suffolk, Va., died Sunday, May 24, 2009 in Consulate Nursing Home (Tandem), in Windsor, Va. She was a native of Warren County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Haywood and Annie Bell Champion Walker. She was also predeceased by her husband, Clinton L. Cofield Sr., and her daughter, Carolyn J. Cofield.
She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and a former member of the Usher Board. She was also a member of the Guiding Light Social and Savings Club and Daughter of the Elks Golden Gate Temple No. 90.
She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, William Walker (Ethel), of Henderson, N.C., Walliyyuddin Shakir (Brenda), of Hampton, Va., Clinton Cofield Jr. (Brenda), and Richard Cofield, both of Suffolk; special foster daughters, Karen Hunter and NeLoise Darden; 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Diggs, of Henderson, N.C.; one brother, Haywood Lee Walker (Mary), of Henderson, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at Canaan Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Robert L. Barnes II. Interment will be in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Crocker Funeral Home Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
