After months of seeing the promotional posters, construction equipment and new building, the Harris Teeter in Harbour View will be open for business on Wednesday.

“We’re excited to be a part of the Suffolk community,” said Jennifer Thompson, communication director for Harris Teeter. “We’ve been servicing around the area for many years, and our stores have been very well received. We’re looking forward to similar success with this new location.”

The 48,000-square-foot store will open Wednesday morning, following a ribbon cutting at 8 a.m.

The store will be open 24 hours a day, and will have a full service meat department and fisherman’s market, a farmer’s market, an in-house deli and a bakery as well as a pharmacy, Western Union and Coinstar.

This will be the first Harris Teeter store to open in the city. To help celebrate the launch, Harris Teeter organizers have set up a number of store events throughout the month of June to introduce new shoppers to Harris Teeter brands and services.

On Saturday and Sunday, the store will host the e-VIC Mobile, where customers can go to sign-up for e-VIC. e-VIC is an addition of the store’s Very Important Customer card program, which is a free program that gives participants discounts on various items. The e-VIC program will send customers notifications when the items that they regularly buy are on sale.

Also this weekend, Harris Teeter will hold demonstrations, which will allow companies to introduce customers to Harris Teeter’s brand products as well as national brand items.

From June 12 to 14, the store will host the Rancher Mobile Grill, which will cook Rancher hamburgers for guests during the weekend.

Then from June 26 to 28, the store will offer customers free Harris Teeter ice cream sandwiches.

Additionally, just in time for the store’s opening, Harris Teeter executives announced last week that the chain will be extending its Great Grocery Giveaway to June 30.

The promotion gives free groceries to every 400th customer who uses a VIC card. There is no limit to how many times a shopper can win, but the free groceries win is only applied to what was being bought at the time of winning. After winning the free groceries, the winning customer also receives a second coupon good for $10 off their next Harris Teeter purchase of $10 or more.
