City’s growth continues

While other communities struggle with unemployment rates in double digits coupled with local businesses closing at a rapid pace, Suffolk continues to set the example for a growing community.

Just this week, Suffolk welcomed its newest business, Harris Teeter. The grocery chain is a great addition to the Northern Suffolk area and is sure to become an integral community partner.

“We’re excited to be a part of the Suffolk community,” said Jennifer Thompson, communication director for Harris Teeter. “We’ve been servicing around the area for many years, and our stores have been very well received. We’re looking forward to similar success with this new location.”

The 48,000-square-foot store opened yesterday. In addition to the anchor store, there also is substantial space available for future businesses to locate in Suffolk.

This is the first Harris Teeter store to open in the city, joining a number of other chain stores calling Suffolk home. For Suffolk, these new partnerships tell a compelling story to prospective stores like Target, and others that the city is indeed open for business.

“It’s a great location,” Thompson said. “And we think we’ll be a great neighbor to the community.” Suffolk is fortunate for having the new partner in Harris Teeter, but as well, should be excited about the message the city’s growth continues to tell.
