Bobby Livingston tossed seven strong innings and Justin Christian clubbed a three-run homer to lead the Tides to a 5-1 win over Toledo Monday night at Harbor Park.

Livingston (1-0) was sharp all night, as he allowed one unearned run on six hits. The 26-year-old left-hander struck out four without walking a batter, and he’s now gone back-to-back starts without allowing an earned run, a stretch spanning 14.0 innings.

Ross Wolf and Chris Ray each tossed a scoreless inning for the Tides, who have now posted a 1.00 ERA during the current six-game homestand.

Trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Joey Gathright ignited a two-out rally by reaching on an infield single. After Carlos Rojas reached on an error by Brent Dlugach, Christian belted an 0-1 offering from Ruddy Lugo (4-5) into the left field picnic area for his third homer of the season to give Norfolk a 3-1 lead.

The Tides added a run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Rojas and another in the eighth on back-to-back triples by Christian and Jeff Fiorentino.

Gathright finished with three singles for Norfolk, which improved to 15-4 against the IL West this season.

Tides finish homestand 2-5

Toledo jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 9-4 win over the Tides Tuesday afternoon.

The Mud Hens touched up Tides starter Chris Waters (6-3) for six runs on six hits in 2.2 innings of work, snapping Waters’ four-game winning streak. The 28-year-old southpaw surrendered a solo home run to Wilkin Ramirez leading off the game and a three-run homer to Will Rhymes in the third inning.

With the loss, Norfolk finished its homestand at 2-5.

The Tides offense was led by Jeff Fiorentino, who doubled twice and singled to lead Norfolk’s 10-hit attack. Jolbert Cabrera also added a two-run homer in the contest, his fourth homer of the season.

Norfolk will enjoy an off day Wednesday before traveling to Indianapolis to start an eight-game road trip Thursday night.
