In response to a need for access to conveniently located, high-quality arts education programs for the homeschool community, The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts has announced the creation of its “Homeschool Arts Initiative.”

Beginning September 16, the first term will consist of regular weekly morning classes held at the Suffolk Center’s facility in downtown Suffolk. With class offerings for grades Pre-K through 12, the students will rotate through three one-hour periods, with subjects including visual art, theater arts, dance and martial arts.

The classes will be taught by professional artists or educators selected for their ability to work effectively with homeschooled children and their parents. Additionally, private lessons in guitar and piano for any level are offered on-site.

In keeping with its goal of providing affordable opportunities for cultural enrichment, the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts has designed a competitive fee structure, which includes significant discounts for families wishing to enroll multiple children. Registration starts at $175 for the first student, and decreases thereafter for each additional enrollee. A $25 registration fee is waived if the family registers by July 31.

“We are always looking for needs which we can fill,” said Paul Lasakow, Executive Director of the Suffolk Center. “Sure, we’re an arts center, but we are also a service organization. If the community has a need, which fits within our general mission, it is clearly our responsibility to find a way to help, particular when that need involves learning. The highest and best use of both our building and our organization is to provide excellence in cultural education to the next generation.”
