In an effort to further meet the demands of its growing readership, the Suffolk News-Herald announced Monday the launch of its new mobile Web site, designed to be better viewed by smart phones such as the IPhone and Blackberry Storm.
The new phone-friendly site can be found at m.suffolknewsherald.com
“This is just one more resource that’s been developed to help reach our readers throughout the community and throughout the Tidewater area,” News-Herald editor Tim Reeves said. “A number of our readers commute each morning and may not be where they can view our full online edition.
“This is just one more way they can stay connected with news from their community – their hometown.”
The site is streamlined for easy viewing and offers viewers content from the news, opinion, obituaries and sports sections of the News-Herald’s online edition.
“Our main Web site (www.suffolknewsherald.com) is a tremendous resource for those at work and at home to view news and information from Suffolk. This new site is yet another opportunity for us to accommodate another segment of our readership,” Reeves said. “I really want to commend the work of our company’s web development and IT teams for their work on this project.”
Unlike the main site, readers will not be able to add comments about stories, but will be able to view any of the comments previously posted on a topic.
Since the redesign of the News-Herald’s main site, www.suffolknewsherald.com, launched last year, thousands of readers have logged on each day to read stories, view photos and add comments to stories about Suffolk.
The addition of the mobile Web site (m.suffolknewsherald.com) is the third online resource for Suffolk residents. The company also produces the online photo community Web site called “Suffolk Seen.” It can be found at spotted.suffolknewsherald.com or by clicking on the “Suffolk Seen” button at www.suffolknewsherald.com.
