Carrie Lee Spruill, 86, of 442 Wilson St., Suffolk, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was a native of Roper, N.C. and the daughter of the late Eares Wilkins and Gertrude Dowden Wilkins. She was also predeceased by her husband, Melvin Spruill; one son, Shelton (Fish) Spruill; and one brother, Issac Wilkins.
She was a member of Rising St. James P.H.C. She was formerly employed at Gwaltney Meat Packing Company for 20 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory her grandchild, LaTriva Ashe, of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Leroy Wilkins (Lillie Mae) of St. Plymouth, N.C.; a devoted niece, Mary E. Boone, of Edenton, N.C.; a devoted goddaughter, Patricia Ashe; a very close and devoted friend, Raymond Wiggins; a very special and devoted nurse, Vesha Jones; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2009 at Rising St. James P.H.C., officiated by Bishop Dwight Whitfield. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Sarah Ashe, 813 Ashley Ave., Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
