SUFFOLK — On Tuesday, July 21, 2009, our mother, sister, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend, Marjorie J. White, entered into eternal sleep at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Va. after a brief illness. She was born on Sept. 6, 1920 in Portsmouth, Va. to the late Ms. Maebell Johnson.
She was a member of Mineral Spring Baptist Church in Suffolk, Va., where she served as the secretary of the choir. She attended Suffolk Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, the late Mr. Norman White Sr. and a son, Mr. Norman White Jr.
Survivors include 10 children; Evelyn White, of Bronx, N.Y., Violet Spruell (David), of Brooklyn, N.Y., Doris Avent, of Queens, N.Y., A.D. White (Janice), of Suffolk, Va., Carolyn Brown (Elijah), of Queens Village, N.Y., Marilyn White, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Horace White Sr. (Sharol), of Splendora, Texas, Joyce White-Johnson of Suffolk, Va., Randall White Sr. (Annette), of Suffolk, Va., Reginald White (Athena), of Newport News, Va. and Faith Hardy, of Suffolk, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Linda White, of St. Albans, N.Y.; 42 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Mrs. White will be on view from noon to 6 p.m. and a wake service will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 24 at the funeral home. The White family will receive visitors at 225 Mineral Spring Road at all other times. A home going celebration of life service will take place at noon, Saturday, July 25 at Mineral Spring Baptist Church, 4849 Mineral Spring Road Suffolk, Va. Interment will immediately follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery.
