The Gwinnett Braves completed a four-game series sweep with a 5-1 win over Norfolk Thursday night. With the four straight losses, Norfolk’s lead in the International League’s South Division is down to a half-game over Durham and one game over Gwinnett.
Brandon Jones and Barbaro Canizares each homered for the Braves. Justin Turner had three hits and drove home Norfolk’s lone run in the eighth inning, while Jeff Fiorentino added two hits in the loss.
Chris Tillman (8-6) had his three-game winning streak snapped after yielding four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work. Tillman walked four and struck out four, throwing 45 of his 84 pitches for strikes.
The Tides traveled to Durham Friday for the start of a five-game, four day series with the second-place Bulls.
