HAMPTON – Shawn Balluzzo and Chris Johnson will renew their tussle for the Modified championship this Saturday as Langley Speedway continues its 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with SYSCO of Hampton Roads Night.
The five-race feature lineup includes: B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps); Old Point National Bank Grand Stocks (40 laps); Med Express Urgent Care Super Trucks (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro 6s (30 laps); and, Larry King Legal Services Enduros (50 laps).
Front gates open at 1 p.m. Afternoon practice rounds commence at 2 and wrap up at 4. Time trials get going at 4:30. Pre-race festivities start at 6:55 and the Pro Sixers lead off the racing program, shortly after 7.
In the Modified division, which will take center stage this weekend, Balluzzo holds a 10-point lead over Johnson in the championship standings, 338-328.
Through seven races, Balluzzo has been a model of consistency, posting one win and six runner-up finishes. Johnson, meanwhile, has claimed five checkered flags. He’s been playing catch-up, though, since an early exit from the April 25 event left him with a 10th-place result.
Late Model Stock Cars return to action on Saturday, Aug. 8, when Langley Speedway plays host to Crossroads Fuel Service Night. Feature events are also slated for the Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets, Med Express Super Trucks, Casey Cycle City INEX Legends, EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs and Wolf Trucks.
A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton.
