Rain doesn’t dampen Night Out rally

A heavy Sunday afternoon storm did little to dampen the spirits of those attending or organizing the Pre-National Night Out Pep Rally at Peanut Park.
Local public safety organizations such as the Suffolk Police and Fire Departments were on hand meeting and greeting area families, while at the same time working to provide key information about such items as fire safety, drugs and child safety seat information.
Booths were also available to provide fun and fun for those attending including a booth with face painting, airbrushed body art and balloon art.
“OK. There you go. You look great in that Spiderman balloon hat,” Kenya the Klown told 6-year-old Daequan Garris as she placed the hat upon his head. “OK, who’s next?”
The event was sponsored by the Suffolk Parks and Recreation department and is just part of the National Night Out events that are set to culminate tonight.
According to organizers, more than 200 local residents attending the pep rally.
The city of Suffolk is defending the national title for its population group for National Night Out.
The kick-off event will be held at the new police administration building located at 111 Henley Place at 5:30 p.m.
From there, committee members, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, the “Nat Knight” mascot and others will head to the many areas celebrating the night out, visiting community parades, flashlight walks, neighborhood potlucks and cookouts, outdoor movies and more.
