Chalk art contest
Published 9:48 pm Saturday, September 19, 2009
Miss the days of drawing on the sidewalk in front of your parents’ house with chalk? Want to get back to those days?
Good news — a chalk art contest will be held Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 32nd Suffolk Peanut Festival.
The third annual event will be divided into four divisions — middle school, high school, amateur and professional.
Each contestant will be given a four-feet by four-feet space to work. Chalk will be provided, but contestants can bring their own chalk. Contestants must be at least 12 years of age. Children under 12 will be provided an area for drawing, but their work will not be judged as part of the contest.
Judging will take place at 3 p.m. the day of the contest by the Peanut Fest Queen and her court.
Pre-registrations will be accepted through Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. Those who pre-register will receive a Peanut Fest parking pass for Oct. 10 only. Walk-up entries will be accepted until 9:45 a.m. the day of the contest. Registration forms are available at Suffolk Parks and Recreation, the Visitor’s Center, the Suffolk Museum, the Suffolk Festivals Office or by e-mailing ljessee@city.suffolk.va.us. Please put “Chalk Art Contest” in the subject line when e-mailing.
