A plain-clothes officer in an unmarked car was approached early Thursday morning with an offer that unfortunately he had to refuse.

While responding to another call, the unidentified officer was propositioned by a woman on East Washington Street offering sex in exchange for money.

According to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George the proposition of prostitution was reported, but since the verbal offer was not acted on further, officials decided not to prosecute.

While reports of prostitution may not be as prevalent as they once were, it doesn’t mean that business isn’t still very active.

“This isn’t from any study or report, but you won’t see as many on-the-street propositions as you once did,” George said. “They are still there, but they have turned to technology such as Craig’s list or other areas of the Internet.”

George said in order for the early Thursday morning proposition to have been prosecuted, the act of actually exchanging money or removing clothing would have to have taken place.
