Roye Riddick

Roye Britt Riddick, 71, was born Nov. 11, 1937 in Nansemond County, Va., to Hazel Smith Britt and the late Lorenzo Britt. She departed this life Sept. 28, 2009 at Sentara Nursing Home in Portsmouth, Va. She was preceded in death by her son Dwayne Christopher Hurbert.
Roye attended school at East Suffolk Complex. She worked at the Butterdish Factory. She was dedicated and worked diligently at everything she strived to achieve. She was committed to her family and friends and was always willing to give. Roye loved God. She was a member of East End Baptist Church, where she attended until she was unable.
She was a devoted mother, daughter and wife. She was united in marriage to Albert Riddick. She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Hazel Britt, of Suffolk; her husband, Albert Riddick; a daughter, Lisa Riddick Roberts (Curtis), of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Derrantae Wilkins, Curtis Roberts Jr., Chantel Roberts and Christopher King, all of Suffolk; one great-grandchild, Haven Nichols, of Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Al Britt, of Silver Springs, Md.; one sister-in-law, Mamie Vincent (Henry), of Lindenwold, N.J.; two brothers-in-law, Wilbert Brown (Barbara), of Portsmouth, Va., and Alphonso Harris (Barbara), of Sicklerville, N.J.; godparents, Clifton and Fannie Bowers, of Suffolk; goddaughter, Cornell Simpson; two faithful nurses, Alice Smith and Francine Madison; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at East End Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Mark A. Croston. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Lisa Roberts, 111 Ashford Drive in Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
