There was more than entertainment onstage during Suffolk Peanut Festival recently.
On the final afternoon of the event, Kathy Bounds had her name drawn to become the winner of a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo LT in the annual fundraiser held by the Rotary Club of Suffolk.
Approximately 1,500 tickets were sold by the Rotary Club from July 2 through Oct. 11. This is an annual fund raiser for the Rotary Club of Suffolk.
Working closely with Lydia Duke, president of Duke Automotive, and Jerry Butler, Duke’s sales representative and inventory manager, this year’s chairman, J. Trenton Bishop, board member and charitable gaming officer, built and ordered the $18,616 car that was used for this year’s auction.
Bishop ordered just about every option available to make this year’s offering special.
The Rotary Club of Suffolk set the ticket price for this year’s raffle at $20 and printed 2,500 tickets. Suffolk Rotarians coordinated efforts to make appearances to sell tickets at most of the Suffolk TGIF events, the Taste of Suffolk event, the Ruritan Club’s Shrimp Feast and the Suffolk Peanut Festival.
The money raised through the raffle helps the Rotary Club offer financial support for many local charities that directly affect people in the community. More than $100,000 has been raised in recent years.
