Art League seeks show entries

The Suffolk Art League will present the 2009 Annual Juried Exhibition at the Suffolk Museum, 118 Bosley Ave., Nov. 8–Dec. 23. Artwork must be original, completed within the past two years and not have been exhibited at the Suffolk Museum.

Artwork to be considered must be delivered to the Suffolk Museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 31 or Nov. 2. Artists may enter up to three works in any medium.

Two-dimensional works must be dry, framed and wired for hanging. Pedestals will be provided for three-dimensional works. Artists should contact the Suffolk Art League prior to delivery if artwork has any unusual installation needs.

There is an entry fee of $45 or $15 for current Suffolk Art League members.

This year’s juror will be Hubert Jackson. Jackson received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts education from Virginia State University. He moved to the Washington, D.C., area and began a teaching career that spanned 34 years. He received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Howard University and did further studies at the Corcoran School of Art.

His teaching experience includes both fine art and photography. Jackson continues to maintain an active painting studio and has participated in numerous exhibitions.

In addition to selecting the artwork to be included in the exhibition, Jackson will select 16 award winners for a total of $2,400 in prize money. The first-place award winner takes home $500 and the opportunity to present a one-person show at the Suffolk Museum in 2010.
