Inez “Aunt I” Colbert, 86, of 1210 Lake Kennedy Drive, Suffolk, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at her residence. She was a native of Southampton County and the daughter of the late Richard and Louvenia Ridley Colbert. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Blanche Wright, Betty Brown, Alice Randall, Louise Jolly; and two brothers, William Colbert and Richard Colbert, Jr.
She retired from Hillcrest Nursing Home. Ms. Colbert was a member of Macedonia A.M.E. Church, where she was on the Senior Usher Board, and was a member of the Lay Organization, Missionary Society, Adult Sunday School Class and the Wednesday night Bible Study.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Gloria Colbert of Suffolk; one sister, Ann Colbert of Newark, N.J.; a devoted niece, Patricia Hernandez (Ramon) of Portsmouth; devoted nephew, William H. Wright (Evelyn) of Suffolk; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Macedonia A.M.E. Church, officiated by the Rev. Charles L. Harvin, Sr. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. A wake will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home Chapel.
