Nansemond-Suffolk’s girls volleyball squad celebrated its Senior Night with its sixth straight win on Thursday night, a sweep over Greenbrier Christian, 25-12, 25-20, 25-20.

It was a comfortable evening most of the way for the Lady Saints after four seniors, Mackenzie Westfall, Alyssa Grigg, Alice Persons and Drew Weitzman were recognized before the match.

Westfall, NSA’s experienced setter, ran the Lady Saint attack well all match long on Thursday. Westfall totaled 32 assists in the three sets. Grigg led the hitters with 11 kills.

Eight straight points on Persons’ serve gave NSA a 12-3 lead in the first set. NSA opened up big leads early in all three sets. In sets two and three, the Lady Gators rallied late in each set to make the final few points interesting, but it wasn’t enough to turn the match around.

Another 8-0 run, this time on Margaret Davies’ service and with four aces by Davies along the way, took NSA to a 23-10 lead in the first set. Grigg had four kills in the set. Tori Dail and Kela Bogaard had two blocks each in the first set.

The Lady Saints led 14-7 in set two before Greenbrier Christian fought back and tied the match at 16-16 and 17-17.

A Lady Gator error put NSA up by a point and Grigg followed with two straight serves that weren’t returned. Trading usual roles, Bogaard set up a kill by Westfall, one of three on the night for Westfall, to put NSA up 21-17.

Westfall had 11 assists in the set. Davies and Grigg combined for nine kills.

NSA jumped out to a 10-3 lead with Grigg putting down four of the 10 points early in the third set. The Lady Gators got back to within three points on a few occasions, but NSA was too consistent.

Weitzman had 10 digs and Persons added five digs. Davies had eight kills and Dail added seven kills.

On Friday afternoon, the Lady Saints traveled to Richmond and swept Collegiate, 25-22, 25-22, 25-13. Collegiate is ranked No. 2 in this week’s VIS Division 1 poll. NSA is No. 6 in VIS (Virginia Independent Schools) Div. 1. Dail had seven kills and Persons had five aces in the win.

The Lady Saints (16-6, 7-2) go into the TCIS Tournament as the No. 3 seed. NSA will host the No. 6 seed, that is still to be determined, on Tuesday at 6:30 in a quarterfinal match. The semifinals, on Thursday, and the final, on Saturday, will be held at Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg.
