A woman who was helping her cousin move a cart on Halloween instead wound up in the hospital with a gunshot wound, according to city officials.
The victim, a 51-year-old Suffolk woman, was helping her cousin load a cart into the bed of a pickup truck when a handgun fell out of the pocket of the cart, hit the ground and discharged, Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George said Monday.
The bullet hit the pickup truck and then ricocheted, hitting the victim in the stomach, George said. The victim was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
George said the handgun was registered to the cousin, who also had a concealed-weapon permit. No charges were filed, but the incident remains under investigation, she said.
