Arena Racing returns to action Saturday

After taking a break last weekend, the drivers of Arena Racing Hampton Roads swing back into action Saturday when the series rolls back into the Hampton Coliseum for an evening of fun and excitement.

Saturday’s lineup includes A, B and C Mains — 50 laps each. The top six finishers from the A Main and the top four finishers from the B and C Mains advance to the 50-lap Top Dog race, the evening’s grand finale.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the pre-race pit party — an excellent opportunity to meet the drivers and get an up-close look at the cars.

Following opening ceremonies, the evening’s racing program kicks off at 7. Drivers will also be available to meet fans on the concourse at the conclusion of the Top Dog feature.

As an added treat, Debbie’s RC World will be on hand during the intermission with an assortment of speedy, high-flying remote-controlled vehicles.

With three events in the books, a clear-cut favorite for the $10,000 championship has yet to emerge. So far, 12 races have produced 10 different winners. The only repeat winners are Patrick Morgan, who swept the A Main and Top Dog races on opening night, and Cody Turbitt, who won the season’s first two C Mains.

This year’s competitive jumble represents a sharp contrast to the previous two campaigns when Scott Prillaman (2007-08) and Adam Florian (2008-09) piled up victories in the early going to set the tone for their title-winning seasons.

Arena Racing Hampton Roads Top 10 (through Race 3 of 15): 1. Scott Prillaman, 92; 2. Adam Florian, 89; 3. Patrick Morgan, 87; 4. Charlie Green, 84; 5. Spencer Saunders, 81; tie Robbie Davis, 81; 7. Travis Wall, 79; 8. Jordan Wood, 78; 9. Derek Miller, 77; tie Aaron Leach, 77.

At the end of the season, each driver’s two worst outings (poor finishes or missed races) will be dropped from consideration before the final standings are tabulated.

Looking for something a little different for your group’s next outing? Something a little “in-your-face”? Something a little extreme? Arena Racing Hampton Roads can fill the bill with group ticket packages for birthday parties, church and youth groups, school organizations, civic and social clubs, etc.

Arena Racing Hampton Roads action continues at the Hampton Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 28, with the PANCAN 200. In addition to the usual diet of fender-banging thrills and spills, the evening’s program will include activities designed to promote awareness of pancreatic cancer.
