James Madison senior Kelsey Cutchins (Lakeland) was named second team All-South Region by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for the 2009 season on Monday.

It’s the third consecutive All-Region award for Cutchins, who is also a three-time all-conference honoree and a two-time All-American. Earlier this season, Cutchins was named to the CAA’s Silver Anniversary Team as one of the top 25 field hockey players in Colonial Athletic Association history.

This season, Cutchins led the CAA in saves, saves per game, goals against average and save percentage. She ranked No. 6 in NCAA Div. I in save percentage (.796). Cutchins ends her James Madison career as first in school history in goals against average (1.10 goals per game) and minutes in goal (5,581:22).

She has been an Academic All-American, ECAC Goalkeeper of the Year, and Virginia state Player of the Year, CAA Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, JMU Female Athlete of the Year, and JMU Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

JMU won the CAA Tournament and reached the NCAA Tournament in each of Cutchins’ first three seasons. This year, JMU finished the season with a 12-8 record.
