Two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident involving a Suffolk trash truck Monday morning along Whaleyville Boulevard.
The trash truck was slowing for a stop at about 10:54 in the 6500 block of Whaleyville Boulevard when a tractor trailer following in a position two vehicles behind failed to stop in time, according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.
The tractor trailer then hit a van that was between it and the trash truck, pushing the van into the trash truck.
Two occupants of the van suffered injuries that were thought not to be life threatening, George said Monday evening. One was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and the other was transported by ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital.
The driver of the tractor trailer was issued a summons for following too closely, George said. His rig was inspected by the Suffolk Weights and Measures division, which removed it from service after finding its brakes to be deficient, she added.
Police closed the road and set up a detour for a little more than an hour while they processed the scene, according to George.
