Lakeland, Nansemond-Suffolk and King’s Fork had outstanding performances Friday and Saturday at Christopher Newport University’s Winter Frolic track meet.

Lakeland’s Jaquan Demiel won the 55-meter hurdles and had a top-four finish in three more events. Demiel bested Deep Run’s Brad Carnahan by 0.04 seconds in the 55 hurdles (7.69).

Demiel was part of Lakeland’s 4×200-meter relay team that placed second out of 35 schools (1:34.67). Demiel finished fourth in the long jump and triple jump.

Nansemond-Suffolk’s Kenny Rice placed third in the long jump (21-2), a half-inch better than Demiel and 7.5 inches behind the winner, Deep Creek’s Austin McNeal.

King’s Fork was led by Qualitra Brown’s performances in the sprints. Brown placed fourth in the 300 meters (43.01), seventh in the 55-meter dash and ninth in the 500.
