PORTSMOUTH — Michael Strothers, 48, of 1115 Lakeview Drive, Portsmouth, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009 at his residence. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of Rufus Allen Strothers, Sr. and Virgie Mae Jones Strothers.
He attended Suffolk Public Schools, and he was a former employee of Smithfield Packing Company for 17 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Virgie Mae Jones Strothers and his father, Rufus Allen Strothers Sr. (Mary); one sister, Valerie D. Strothers; four brothers, Rufus A. Strothers, Jr. (Kellie Hawkins), Rodney L. Strothers (Annissa), Keith M. Callahan and Thomas R. Jones; a special cousin, Anita Savage; a special friend, Robert Washington; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 901 Thomas Circle in Portsmouth, officiated by Elder Dwayne Strothers. The body will be placed in the church for viewing at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Portsmouth residence and the home of Anita Savage, 108 Raleigh Avenue in Suffolk. The family will assemble at 1115 Lakeview Drive in Portsmouth at 10:45 a.m. for the procession to the church.
