Warriors fall in OT in N.C. tourney

Bishop McGuiness (N.C.) 79, Nansemond River 76 – OT
The Warriors fell to North Carolina’s defending Class 2A state champions in overtime Tuesday in the first round of the Rockingham County High School Invitational. Bishop McGuiness’s Andrew Toomey scored 41 points. The score was 69-69 through regulation.
Morris Johnson led NR with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Ashton Moore had 20 points, including three three-pointers. Brandon Debblay scored 15 points.
Nansemond River (3-4) played its last game in Rockingham on Wednesday night. NR plays Kellam at Lake Taylor on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Christ the King (N.Y.) 56, King’s Fork 40
Traditional New York City power Christ the King defeated King’s Fork in the semifinals of the National Division at the STOP DWI Holiday Classic in Binghamton, N.Y. Tuesday night.
The two teams combined for 56 fouls on the night and the Bulldogs suffered the worst of it. KF’s two main post players, Davante Gardner and Jay Copeland, each had two fouls two minutes into the game.
Christ the King led 29-18 at halftime. Gardner finished the night with a team-high 14 points.
The Bulldogs (6-2) played in the third-place game in Binghamton on Wednesday against South Laurel (Ky.).
