A Lakeland High School senior died early Saturday morning after being shot outside of a party in Norfolk, officials said Saturday afternoon.
Michael Lee, 17, of Suffolk, was pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after being rushed there by ambulance from a home in the 500 block of W. 34th Street in Norfolk’s Park Place community, according to Officer Chris Amos of the Norfolk Police Department.
Police were called to the home at about 12:30 a.m. on a report of a gunshot victim, Amos said. When they arrived, they found Lee outside the residence along with “a number of other folks.”
Lee had been shot at least once with a handgun after a fight inside the home spilled into the yard, where gunfire erupted. Amos could not say how many shots had been fired or how many times Lee had been struck. He said investigators also are unsure what led to the fight and that he had no information on Lee’s relationship to the people who lived at the home where the party took place.
Amos said police were unaware of anyone else being injured in the incident.
Investigators believe the shooter was at the party and had been involved in the fight, but they did not have an identification for the suspect by Saturday afternoon, he added. Police are looking for a black male, about six feet tall with braids, he said.
