Helen K. Wooten, 83, died on March 6, 2010 surrounded by her family at her daughters’ home in Chesapeake, Va. Born in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Nellie May and Henning Gordon Joyner, and the widow of Thomas I. Wooten. She was predeceased by a son, Mark Wayne, and brothers Gerald S. and Oliver D. Joyner.
Helen worked as a property manager for the Larrymore Organization and was a homemaker, where she raised her family.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara Gusler, of Grandy, N.C., and Sherry Byrd, of Chesapeake; son, Gordon Wooten, of Jarvisburg, N.C.; brother, Gordon Joyner, of Grandy, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Nichole Boswell, Kevin Chinn, Scarlet Byrd, Summer Byrd, Joseph Kline, Danielle Kline, Chandra Wooten, Sheila McKibben and Tony Byrd; nine great-grandchildren, Dakota, Sierra, Heather, Bryce, Tyler, Maddox, Haley, Dylan, Landyn.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the mausoleum at Princess Anne Memorial Park Cemetery, Virginia Beach, Va. The family will received friends Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434
