NEWPORT NEWS — Melvin Thorne, born on June 17, 1947 passed into eternal life on March 12, 2010 in Newport News, Va.
Melvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Renea Thorne, and his parents, Roosevelt and Mary Lizzie Thorne.
He leaves to mourn him five children, Melvin M. Thorne (Stephanie), Jonathan B. Thorne, of Newport News, Va.; Derrick Thorne (Shanekia), of Hopewell, Va., Shanell N. Riddick (Randolph), of Suffolk, Va., and Sherese Walden Ghazel (Eddie), of Richmond, Va., three sisters, Catherine Wright, Bertha Wigfall, Margie Callahan (Eddie), of Suffolk, Va.; one brother, Artis L. Thorne (Jean), of Huntington, Md.; father-in-law, George L. Walden, of Bronx, N.Y.; five sisters-in-law, Sheila Walden Carter (Ronnie), of Carrollton, Va., Gladys Chandler, Sherry Benbow, of Newport News, Jackie Brown (Gerald), of Brooklyn, N.Y., Destiny R. Walden, of Bronx, N.Y., three brothers-in-law, Walter M. Walden (Irish), of Newport News, Va., Michael B. Walden (Tonya), of Camden, S.C., and Davon Walden, of Bronx, N.Y., two aunts, one uncle, 16 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A service of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Ave., Newport News, VA 23607, (757) 380-8871. There will be no public viewing.
