Lena Walltower

Ms. Lena Mae Walltower, of Largo, Md., quietly passed on Sunday, March 14, 2010 after a brief illness. She was born on May 31, 1948 to Johnny Walltower and Jessie Walltower-Brown. She was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Walltower, and her sister, Marvis W. Milteer.
Lena was a native of Suffolk, Va., a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and Norfolk State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Afterwards, she pursued a teaching career within the Suffolk school system for several years. Ms. Walltower then relocated to the Washington metropolitan area, where she shared her passion for literature and research during her employment at the Library of Congress as a copyright specialist for over three decades.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Jessie W. Brown; a sister, Johnnie M. Blanchard, of Seabrook, Md.; two brothers, Ulysses “Walt” Walltower, of Fort Washington, Md.; and Elijah Walltower, of Chesterfield, Va.; one brother-in law, Fred Blanchard, of Seabrook, Md.; two sister-in laws, Dottie Walltower, of Fort Washington, Md., and Glenda Walltower, of Chesterfield, Va.; nine nieces, eight nephews, 13 great-nieces, 16 great-nephews, 13 great-great-nieces, eight great-great-nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Viewing will be at New Bethel Church of God in Christ at 6440 Piney Branch Road, Northwest Washington, D.C., on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., and a homegoing service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services will be provided by B.K. Henry Funeral Home.
