Clara C. Lawton, 68, formerly of Suffolk, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Luther Henry Lawton and Bettie Williams Lawton.
She was a graduate of East Suffolk High School and attended Tidewater Community College. She was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Society, Sunday school and former member of the senior choir.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Gwenita Lawton, of Norfolk, Va.; five sisters, Lois L. Hamlin, of Suffolk, Cinthea L. Jubray (Booker), of Hampton, Va., Lydia Hunter, of Lorten, Va., Johnella Brogdon, of Newport News, Va. and Wyvonnie Harsley, of Lorten, Va.; two brothers, Jerry Lawton and Benford Hunter (Paquita), both of Suffolk; one grandchild, Asijha Lawton; two aunts, Catherine Lawton, of Suffolk, and Martha Alston, of Baltimore, Md.; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Little Bethel Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Bernard Thomas. Interment will be in Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Windsor. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
