Tickets go on sale soon for the 26th annual Suffolk Leadership Prayer Breakfast, which will be held May 6 at 7 a.m. at the National Guard Armory.
The event, which sells out each year, will be held in conjunction with the 59th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer, as well as state and local observances across the country.
The event in Suffolk, like the national event, serves “to seek the Lord’s guidance and strength, as well as to reaffirm and renew the dedication of our city to God and his purpose,” said one of the organizers of the event. The group of organizers remains anonymous in order to give all the glory to God.
“This event encourages men and women throughout the world to recognize the privileges and responsibilities of a nation under God,” she said. “That’s why we do the local breakfast. It is helping to build true community in our city.”
The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer is “Prayer for Such a Time as This.” The verse is Nahum 1:7 — “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.”
The event will feature special guest musicians and a speaker, who are not announced ahead of time. Past speakers have included professional athletes, notable military personnel, national heroes and television producers.
Past musicians have included former Miss Americas and Miss Virginias, recording artists and the Watoto Children’s Choir.
Tickets for the Suffolk Leadership Prayer Breakfast go on sale April 6 at Farmers Bank Hillpoint branch, 3100 Godwin Blvd. Businesses may purchase a table of eight for customers and employees for $120. Individual tickets cost $15 each.
