William Henry Elam, 60, of 1626 Dock Landing Road, Chesapeake, Va., passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of the late Charles Ray Elam Sr. and Rosa Elam Goodman.
He was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, class of ’69, and Tidewater Community College. He retired as a government employee from the Fleet Industrial Supply Center and Navy Reserve. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He was the owner and operator of Air Flow Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. He was a member of New First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Male Choir and People of Praise Choir.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Sharon Boone Elam, of Chesapeake; two daughters, Tresa Myers (Brian), of Chesapeake, Va., and Kendra Elam Leeks (Theodore), of Gainesville, Va.; two sons, Kevin Williams (Malinda), of Dayton, Ohio, and William Jarrell Elam, of Chesapeake; one sister, Harriett Alexander, of Portsmouth, Va.; two brothers, David Gatling (Linda), of Long Island, N.Y. and Charles Ray Elam Jr. (Jeanie), of Montgomery, Ala.; five grandchildren; an uncle, Yvonne Elam; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 in New First Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Lemuel Greene. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
